kleshavashyam kva cedam Paraphrase (PR): How (kvá ca) poorly (krishá) developed (parinati) this (idám) mind (cétas) ruled (vashyam) by the Klesha-s --i.e. the well-known five Afflictions: ignorance, ego, attachment, aversion and fear of death-- (klesha) (is); and how (kvá ca) endless and perpetual (sháshvat) Your (táva) Prosperity (riddhih) which passes beyond (ullanghinii) the frontier (siimaa) (marked by the three) Guná-s or qualities (guná) (is)! Thus (iti), (even though) intensely (amandiikritya) frightened (cakitam) (of that), oh Grantor (da) of boons (vará), the devotion (bhaktíh) caused (aadhaat) me (maam) to offer (upahaaram) flowers (púspa) (in the form of) words (vaakya) to Your (te) feet (caranayoh). Asitagirisamam syaatkajjalam sindhupaatre Paraphrase (PR): (If an amount of) lampblack --used as a kind of ink-- (kajjalam) equivalent (samám) to the black (asita) mountain (girí) were to be (syaat) (poured into) the ocean (síndhu) acting as a pot --i.e. "an inkpot"-- (paatre); (if) a branch (shaakhaa) of the best (vará) tree (taru) of the gods (sura) --i.e. the celebrated Kalpavriksa-- (were to be used as) a pen (lekhanii) (and) the (very) earth (urvii) (as) the leaf for writing on (pátram); (and) if (yádi) Shaaradaa --i.e. "Sárasvatii", the river-goddess generally connected with eloquence and learning-- (shaaradaa), having taken possession (of all those implements) (grihiitvaa), (were to) write (likháti) eternally (sarvakaalam); even (ápi) that (amazing association) (tád), oh Lord (iishá), would not (ná) reach (yaati) the end (paaram) of Your (táva) good qualities (gunaanaam) --in other words, all Shivá's qualities might not be written even if such a great personage as Sárasvatii Herself were to write with all those articles everlastingly.
